Be very very careful unseating the video connector. Those ribbon cables are highly fragile. A coworker of mine just snapped the darn ribbon cable on the keyboard a Thinkpad 600 today. Real ugly.

Yes, the addressing logic may well be fried, but it occurs to me that
I saw something like this once. The LCD panel was OK, but the connector
to it was slightly loose, such that odd things came out on the screen.

If this is the case--and it most likely isn't--then the cure is to take
the laptop part of the panel apart, so you can find the (presumably)
ribbon connector to the display. You'll have to take that apart and
reseat it, but that would fix a bad connection problem. I'll bet that
its in the LCD display however. The fact that external video works
suggests that the video hardware is fine, pointing more fingers at the
LCD display.
