Bill-
I am assuming that you have the CD-ROM/DVD drive in the drive bay. Do you
happen to have the floppy drive hooked up with the external cable at the
same time? I ran into almost the same thing when I originally upgraded my
770ED to win98. I remembered from many desktop installs that this is at the
point that it accesses the floppy drive. Hooking up the floppy drive solved
the installation hang.

NOW, the trouble comes when i try to upgrade to win98 2nd edition...
