Surely it is a very simple matter indeed to strip out all HTML tags leaving the text. Even a shell script could do this very easily.

I wish there was an easy way to do this. We reject html'ed mail on subscription requests and we specifically state in the welcome message (like anyone reads it) that posts with html in them are subject to being dropped on the floor silently, but we've not found a good way to do this programatically. I think the best thing to do is educate each other, gently of course, in the use of HTML fluff. There are those that don't want it, those that can't deal with it, and those that don't care. Some people don't realize that sending HTML'ed mail can be rude. Some people don't realize that it is configurable to send text-only to a specified address from most every mailer I've seen, so the best thing to do is send a reminder to people who post HTML that their mailer should be configured to send text-only to the thinkpad mailing list address.
If I have to write a filter to get rid of HTML posts, well, I will and you won't like it any more than I, but at the moment I have a tree on my house and I want you guys to play nice with each other while Mommy talks to the man about the roof.
