Sure it does! I have seen it much lower on 32MB of RAM.

In fact, I'm measuring the amount of free RAM available
an any time (OOPS, the utility is not "ramfree" as I said
but "showmem") and as the time goes on, all RAM is
swallowed up by the system. Memory leaks, I guess.
