as in the early days of VCR's, when a tape cost $25 each, and a movie was $185 to
purchase, everyone made copies.. from various sources...
(not sure WHY, because most movies are/were not worth the cost of the tape and once
viewed, who would waste time on a second viewing)..
once the price to buy and legally own the movie (or whatever) came to reasonable
levels, the economic incentive for stealing it evaporates.. amnd more people own
it..
(won't go into the greed factor here)
IMO in the case of software (office 2000, et al) linux and redhat, et al, have
taken what i consider the proper approach..
i may be wrong, but a fair price for a good product does not to make the owner a
trillionaire..
