Thinkpad 760 EL w/ CD or FDD, how to install CDROM-based?

Hi,

I've got an older 760 EL with Floppy OR CDROM (inside).
After being happy with OS/2 for years, I now need to install a second
system.
I would like to do a CDROM based LINUX installation with a bootable CD.
But my 760 does not seem to be able to set the CDROM as boot device.

And being unable to have a CDROM _AND_ a FDD at a time ... what can I do?
