As far as I am aware, the whole i-series is the range of ThinkPads
contracted out to Acer. I had nasty experiences in the early days with
ThinkPad 310's and 365's, also Acer products; I hope they have sorted
out their quality and materials by now, but personally I'd only touch a
'real' IBM machine. Superficially part of the ThinkPad range, internally
rather disappointing.
I evaluated an i-series about six months ago for a colleague at work;
looked great on paper, then I went down to the local PC superstore to
get a feel for the machine. Crap, plasticy thing. I went from "yeah -
that looks like a decent machine" to "buy a Toshiba" almost instantly.
Personal opinion,
Dan.
