When my i1410 was still under IBM warranty, I was having problems which
caused the computer to say there were only a few minutes remaining on the
battery but the battery still had enough juice to run a couple of hours with
power management off. I called service about it and they told me to fully
charge and discharge the battery 2-3 times. I did this twice and nothing
changed. I was convinced that the battery was bad. I told service this and
they blamed the BIOS and Windows power management, Windows itself,
everything but the battery! I had to insist on replacing the battery before
they would do it. New battery, no problems.
