One thing you might do (since it's out of warranty), *IF* you're handy
with screwdrivers and zillions of parts, is to reseat the video cable.
It requires a non-trivial amount of unscrewing, and remembering where
things go, but more than once I've seen it fix video problems that are
virtually identical to what you're talking about. If it weren't for the
fact that you're out of warranty, I wouldn't've even brought it up.

P.S. I've never done this on a 770 before, so I don't know how that one
works -- but I doubt it's terribly different than other Thinkpads and
Toshibas that I've cracked open before.
