The 770's must have had some bad inverter cards as I had the same problem
and have answered on this previously.

Yes, the problem will get worse. Eventually the screen will continue to
become
darker and the 'blackouts' more frequent until the point that it is
permanent and
you cannot read the screen anymore.

I'll try to find the repair statement that came with my unit after the
repair
and get you a part number. My unit was still under warranty so I don't
think it will have a price but you can always call IBM for a quote.
