Make sure you have the newest BIOS:

 http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/EMON-3MGGW8.html

Goto IBM's device driver matrix page for the 380ED and download the
newest CD-ROM drivers (Fat32 support).

 http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/RMIE-38CEKN.html

Go into windows and format a fresh floppy with the system command
files on it. ("format a: /s")

Copy fdisk, format, sys and mscdex to the floppy from the
windows\command directory (mscdex just in case the 380ED CD driver
disk doesn't include a version).

Back up all crucial files

Boot from floppy

If you wish to repartition, run fdisk and reboot

>From the floppy boot (A:), type "format c: /s"

Install the CD-ROM drivers from the driver disk
(NOTE, depending on Fat32, drivers may have problems
  installing. If so, install manually)

Reboot

Copy the entire Win98 or Win98SE directory to the c:
drive in a directory

Remove CD and install from c: drive
