After my recent remark about cooling programs on this list, I have been
getting lots of mail
asking for more information or download sites. A discussion (and
comparison) appears in
http://www.benchtest.com/cooler.html (I think this is a bit dated now).
The program I use (Rain)
has been discontinued by the author (who also wrote Waterfall, which I
like less), but is still available
at http://www.processor.org/files.htm
Note this is only relevant for users of W95 and W98 on Pentium-class
chips. Most other
operating systems already include the functionality of these programs,
and the extra
HLT instructions won't do anything for other chips (e.g., 486-class
chips).
