I have a Thinkpad 600X, with Windows 98 SE.
I have noticed the following odd behavior: If I suspend the machine while a CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM drive, and I open the CD-ROM drive during suspend or during resume (i.e. removing the CD from the drive), then when I try to resume, the screen never comes up from being off, and the machine never wakes up, no matter how long I wait (the suspend light keeps blinking). If I then close the CD-ROM drive (i.e. putting the CD back in the drive), the machine will successfully resume.
Just thought I'd point this out, in case it explains at least one situation where the machine doesn't seem to want to wake up.
