another good substance for such a job is the material available at most auto
parts and hardware stores, used for tools..
to coat pliar handles with a thick rubber surface..
it comes in colors..
i used it when i performed the "knobectomy" on the original 760CD ac
adapter.. :-)

you can also squeeze a few more miles out of a worn trackpoint tip by using a
bit of this stuff on it..
it works only for a short while, but it does work..
