Just to eliminate the obvious, try using the microphone
and the headphones under another program (like the MS
.WAV recorder). It shouldn't be a software problem, but
this will confirm it one way or another.

Another obvious thought is to try another microphone and
headphone on the TP600 and see if things work correctly or
not.
