If you have a cardbus capable machine (32-bit PCI spec for mobile machines)
and your network needs are 100mb/sec (100megabits per second = 12.5megabytes
per second), then go with 32-bit. The PCMCIA (PC Card) 16-bit spec is based
on the
ISA spec and maxes out @ 16Mbytes/sec transfer rate (8mhz @ 2bytes), with
clock
cycling issues, actually provides performance that tops out around
8Mbytes/sec and
can be lower than that in many instances.

With a 16-bit PC Card, you will be limiting yourself in the maximum bandwidth
you can receive from your connect. The 32-bit Cardbus PCI spec offers up to
132Mbytes/sec transfer rate (33mhz @ 4bytes).

If any mobile user is going to use high bandwidth devices (Network, SCSI,
etc..)
and can, definitely use cardbus devices. If your system only supports 16-bit
PC Card devices, well, it's better than nothing but expect a potential
performance hit.

10 megabits per second = 1.25Mbytes/sec, so 16-bit PC Card spec can handle it
fairly easily. The same applies to modems.
