Some background from a local.

I grew up in the adjacent town of Unionville. Thornhill is just north of
the city of Toronto. There is a lot of tech there, large and small
(including ATI world headquarters), lots of low-rise tech shops like you
see in Silicon Valley. I was just visiting Sun Microsystems Canada there
yesterday.

Steeles is the northern boundary of Toronto proper, so this place is just
on the the other side of the street.

The local police is York Regional Police, tho I would also try contacting
the RCMP as they are concerned about fraud.

There has been a large increase in cross-border fraud in recent years, as
it is that much harder prosecute when you have to cross the border (this
principle works in both directions, and we are always warned about ordering
>from US companies unless you know they have a good reputation). There have
been a lot of phone scams (of US residents) based in Canada too. That's
where the money is, as they say (the populace is 10 times bigger, plus it
has a deeply instilled desire to "win").
