All the drives cd/dvd/hd are all standard ide with some extra plastic added
by IBM. I'm sure it will be possible to modify a ultraslimbay drive to work
in ultrabay 2000.

It is my understanding that the new A and T units will not fit in the
old ultra bays... and vice versa... These new Thinkpads are designed for
all the new electronics that are coming available including wireless,
DSL, etc and the new ultrabay 2000 is designed for the additional speed
and electronics... Particularly important is the planning that is going
into making these new series have a market life of two to three
years... This is as new a technology as were the 760, 770, 600... I
doubt there will be any common fits between the 570, 600, 770
peripherals and the new A and T. We can only hope the new ultrabay 2000
will last through the product life of the A & T as improvement and
development occurs.
