Bill , I think your'e wrong on this one . ;-}
Or maybe not ....what actual caddy was this drive put in ?

The 2.1GB was in a "modern" shell so its flex cable should not need surgery.
BTW only the last two pins need to be isolated on the " old" shells , not all 4.
Since the drive and caddy work in the ultrabay this one is a puzzler .
ie. It's not a bios thing , bad drive , bad cabling thing.

By " the TP doesn't even recognize it" are you saying that in the BIOS the Drive
Icon is greyed out ? Or it simply will not boot.?
Have you checked your Bios version .....just because ;-}
Also tell the bios to "initialize " and also check the Boot order, though again
since you can boot with your other drive this should be a non issue.
I only mention this because I was on the phone once with Tech support about a non booting drive
in a Thinkpad 760E and the darn thing suddenly started working after we did all these things .
I had already done them before phoning ...several times, but doing it again in a different order
fixed things .
BTW the 4GN 4.3GB work fine in the 760's .
..peter..

Using FDISK , the boot partion shows "A " for active ...right ?
