Yes, IBM manufactures hard drives and sells them to other notebook makers.
They also buy drives from other manufacturers for their own notebooks. It's
a pretty standard business practice these days: One division of the company
doesn't get to be the exclusive supplier for other divisions; they have to
compete with other suppliers.
