So does one spindle (701C) rock, and I can use it in an
airplane where CD-ROM machines are verboten (or at least,
reportedly, in *some* airplanes. In my recent experience, I
bring out the 701 and flight attendants don't bother me. Maybe
it is no longer an issue).

So do zero spindle (PDA) machines rock, according to many
postings here.

What you get with the extra spindles can often be made up for
by connecting to a LAN or installing the offending software to
a HD in another computer and then transplanting it to its final
recipient.

As always, YMMV. There is a tradoff between spindles and
weight.
