I have an external pcmcia HD box which I have been using for some time;
not the travelstar, but
the basic idea is the same. Very nice for things like backup and huge
file transfer, but
nowhere near as fast as the onboard HD.

Subject: Travelstar E (external PCMCIA)
I finally gave in* and clicked on a banner ad for an 8Gb external
HD from IBM. Price is U$299 and includes what appears to be a
tethered PCMCIA card (cable tethered to card that is, I hope it's
not tethered to the enclosure!!). No power cord needed. Part
number is 34L4223.
There's also a 10Gb version for U$349.
Any thoughts or experience on these? They're advertised as a JAZ
drive alternative. (Picture of 4 removable disks next to the
drive).
Thanks!
