Given the fact that you aren't afraid to dig into the unit (yay!), once you
know that the system board is indeed where the keyboard controller is,
you might want to find out what a newish system board costs. That,
or find a 701 with a dead screen or something like that, then take its
system board out and put it in your new unit. I really doubt that IBM
would do it for a reasonable price.
