Ok lets consider the tp701 butterfly kb. Pulling the unit off you see
that there are no electronics on the KB, just the two foil patterns to
form the matrix.
If I unplug both KB sides, left and right the trackpoint work s fine.
With just the right hand side plugged in all the keys fiction correctly.
Everything appears fine.
With JUST the left side plugged in there are a number of keys such as
caps lock, s, x that produce a phantom keystroke of keys that exist only
on the right hand portion of the KB. Since that KB section is totally
unplugged from the laptop system board this would appear to indicate
that the issue is with the KB decoding logic in the system board itself
not the KB.
After all at this point eh lines to produce say a . when the x is
pressed are physically disconnected from the system board ? Does this
make sense ? Someone on the list has offered me a system with dead sound
for a good price so I could likely use that system board, I didn't look
when i had the KB off mine, is the sound board a seperate subsystem or
am I just replacing one problem for another ?
To be honest I'm currently un-employed and can't really afford to just
through away the system but would really like to be able to make a
working system without too much investment as I purchased the system as
working.
Shoulf I just try for a refund from the purchaser ? The system was
advertsed as in working condition when i bought it, and thre seller says
it was working fine when they shipped it. Am I juust out of luck here?
