It has something to do with the maximum number of cylinders (tracks) x
the number of addressable sectors x sector size x the number of heads
per cylinder. This was the reason that older IDE systems could only
address 528MB. I forget what the maximums are, but there are ways of
"soft" extending the size, but I would not recommend them in a laptop.
