Am I missing something, or wouldn't Jon have been quite grateful to Bruce
for selling him a unit at his cost? Jon would have pointed Bruce to another
deal that would have more than made up the difference in price, IMHO.
Bruce would have looked like a real nice guy in front of the list members
(the best form of advertising: the kind you don't have to pay for), and he
could have counted on more "hot tips" from Jon in the future.
Maybe Bruce was having a senior moment??

Since listnanny Jane L. hasn't chimed in here...
We all seem to get along quite well during narrow technical discussions
about
thinkpads, but this list does
have a tendency to get a bit volatile when we veer off topic. While
this is
not a prima facie reason *not* to
include threads (when relevant) about operating systems and shopping
bargains,
maybe we should give extra care
when we make such posts.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with Bruce doing whatever he wants with
his new
drives, and we should all hope he gets lots
of money for them from owners of Toshiba and Dell laptops:-) The "nice
guy"
thing for him to have done would have
been to sell one to Jon at cost, but we should recognize that had he
done so
this would have been "nice above and beyond the call of duty", not just
"everyday" nice. Certainly he is under not the slightest moral
obligation to
sell one to any *other*
member of this list at anything under what the market will bear.
At the same time, Bruce should perhaps not have worded his original "off
to
eBay"
post quite the way he did, as to many it seemed to be a combination of
an
unnecessary brag and an overt and intentional disregard Jon's plea - it
is hard
tim imagine any other reason for the post as worded. I like to think
that
Bruce didn't mean it this way, which supports my suggestion that we be
more
careful with off-topic posts.
Like this one:-)
Now, anyone care to talk about ThinkPads?
