Other things you can do, if desperate.
Try booting many, many times. It might work just once and you can copy your files.
Drop the notebook about 8 inches onto a pillow. If the problem is "mechanical" this may jar it enough to boot.
Both of these methods have worked for me. The "drop the notebook" dodge can at least temporarily fix any number of "loose connection" problems.
