There was a class of hard drives for Sun workstations years ago (might
have been some type of Quantum) where the head would get stuck in the
park position. The fix was to take the drive out and bang it in the
direction of head motion to loosen it up. The first time I saw someone
"fix" a drive this way in a new, expensive workstation
was...well..interesting. It worked!
