Thanks for all the ideas about recovering my files on the crashed 600X HD. I
managed to get most of my critical files off (of the ones I didn't have backed
up) and there are only a handfull of 'nice-to-haves' left that appear gone.
At this point I'm more frustrated with the fact that I'm going to have to do
another full system build again (I just did it a month ago when I got the
600X).

p.s. Now that I don't have much to lose, maybe I'll try some of the more
radical suggestions, like the freezer or a good whack on the desk... If
nothing else it may make me feel better!
