I have had a couple of very similar experiences with egghead, especially with
stock status changing to "we no longer carry this"
after accepting an order. I classify this as an aggravation but not a
disaster. Even worse is when they are acting as a broker to some other company
(e.g., Royal Computers/Utobia) and the latter is sleazy. However, when IBM is
selling items - either
as a "superstore" or in an online auction - then in my experience it is safe,
and one can save enough money to make using
the middleman worthwhile. (Ditto with items sold on egghead by compgeeks.com,
BTW.)
