IMHO one big reason why Thinkpads have better resale value is because
the warranty follows the machine, not the owner. Thus a used Thinkpad
can still have a valid warranty on it. Given this choice, I would not
buy a used machine of any other brand, unless the same warranty policy
was available. Does anyone know of any other brand with the same
policy? If Thinkpads are unique in this regard, it would be one good
reason why they hold their resale value better, at least until their
warranty, extended or otherwise, runs out. For people like me who
cannot afford new machines, a fairly recent Thinkpad with some IBM
warranty left on it is an excellent value.
