James--
Thanks very much for the reply. I wonder if perhaps we are not talking
about the same thing, however.
I apologize for my sloppy usage of the term "memory card." I meant it in
the sense of removable storage memory -- a PC card, flash card, SanDisk,
etc. They come in Type I (no longer used much), II (standard flash
memory) and III (a tiny spinning-disk drive). These things come in sizes
from a few hundred K to a gigabyte. They're being superceded by Compact
Flash cards now, which are as I understand it the same thing only smaller.
I hope this clarifies what I'm talking about.
I have a couple of cards that I use to transfer files between my desktop
and laptops, standard ol' Type II PCMCIA cards of no great size. They
work well in everything, from my old HP 200LX and Omnibook 430 to my
brand-new P3 desktop. My TP760EL chokes on them every time, however.
James, are you saying that the PCMCIA slots on the Thinkpad are for
running devices (modems, CD-ROMs, etc) only? That would surprise me, I
guess, but I'd certainly feel better about being totally unable to
configure the flash cards!
Thanks again,
Ain
