this is not entirely true..
all later notebook drives have the same pinout..
besides, on the 701, the addressing pins are not covered..
and any 1gig or larger drive does not need a shorting jumper to address the
drive, since all newer drives are automatically the master drive..

SO, for a 701, just put a 6.4gig or smaller drive in the shell and then into
the 701 and boot from the floppy and run FDISK and then FORMAT..

then boot from the new drive in the 701.. :-)

assuming the drive that you have will work in the 701 at all...
toshiba drives have a problem, but the fujitsu drives have not had the same
problem and IBM drives seem to run just fine..
