I recall one of the list members here mentioning that he has had to rebuild a
number of xjack cards over the course of time.

I have a pair of 3com 3cxe589dc ethernet cards that have gone dead with the
same symptom -- they hang the machine after it beeps that it is activating the
card. On my 730TE, I see that the pcmcia activity light is dimly lit.

The first symptom that something was going wrong was that the machine wouldn't
boot with the card inserted. It would bring up the network OK if I plugged it
in after W95 had finished starting up and launching all of the systray
programs.

If I boot it with a pre-inserted card, but no cable attached, I get the "Can't
find a DHCP server" message which I can respond to [mouse or keyboard] and
then I get the freeze.

Is what I'm seeing a symptom of a broken xjack connector or has the card
simply gone south with all the inserting, removing and carrying around it sees?

thanks in advance
