560x flashing display

My couple year old 560x seems to have a problem. The LCD flashes on and
off at about 2 Hz. The video is ok. My understanding is that the
backlight is a florescent tube of some sort - do these go bad? Can they
be replaced? I've done a couple power cycles, it flashes at startup and
in the bios too.
