This evening, I disassembled my 560x, undoing all the cables to the LCD.
When it was all back together the screen was ok. There was not anything
obviously wrong inside, but one of the wires going to the backlight was
pinched a little. Its insulation was worn broken through; a small error
in the original assembly.
IBM's repair manual says to reconnect all the connectors if there is an
LCD problem - glad it worked!
