David,
I have that card running successfully, but under Windows 98 SE. As for
the software included with it, I assume you mean Mobile Connection
Manager, and the like. Personally, I've not used anything except the
drivers and the card works perfectly even when using the LAN and modem
features simultaneously. However, the notebook I'm using this card in
is not a ThinkPad and uses a Ricoh CardBus controller.
Have you looked at this page at 3Com's site?
http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/micro.htm
It contains information about a Microsoft update for OSR2 (Win95B) that
provides support for multifunction CardBus cards. The link to the
Microsoft download site (which I'm not including here due to the length
of it) takes you to a page with the following paragraph:
NOTE: The following IBM Thinkpad models incorrectly
had the "TP-DOCK1" BIOS signature when they were
initially released. Owners of these machines should
update to the current BIOS from IBM before installing
the PCCARD update. 770, 770E, 560X, 380XD, 385XD, 600
The current BIOS images for these machines are available
from IBM's website.
The 770 and 380XD are both models you mentioned in your post. Do you
have the most recent BIOS for the TPs you're trying this card in? Not
having any direct experience with it, I can be of little more help. I
also apologize if I'm sending you down a road you've already traveled.
Best of luck, though... it really is a great card! (Although you should
be careful with the XJack. I've already had 3Com replace one card due to
a failed XJack. And I am always VERY careful with my toys.)
