I'm attempting to configure my wife's 701c so that she can sync her Palm with
the serial cable. I attached the ungainly port dongle (the one with all the
connections that's otherwise missing) and I look for com1. But in Device
Manager I see an ! next to it and when I open properties a conflict with the
internal modem is listed. So I deselect the intermal modem from all setups and
still the conflict remains. I sequentially did the same for LPT1 and 2, pulled
out all pcmcia cards (cdrom scsi and modem/network) but still no joy.

No matter what I do I keep seeing a message in Device Manager that com1 is not
present or working properly.

This thing is whipping my behind. I recall even when this notebook was my
everyday computer that it was tricky to setup due to the blasted internal modem.

Any advice if anyone recalls how to set it up properly. It's hard for me to
believe I was once in love with it! <g>

Thanks.
