I'm back with more questions as promised.
Now I have bought a DVD ("Ran") which does not say Region 1 but it was
purchased in the USA and the video shop staff assured me it is so coded.
Before using DVD Express I followed the "Thinkpad 600E User's Reference
Supplement" which states "Click on Start, move the cursor to Programs
and Mediamatics DVD Express, and then click on Mediamatics DVD Player.
The 'Select DVD Region' window appears'".
In fact no window appeared, so I could not execute the next step:
"Select the region code and click on OK".
Anyway I validated the DVD drive with an audio CD which plays fine on the
DVD express software. Then I inserted the DVD and clicked play. Until
this moment several buttons are illuminated e.g. Eject. When I click
Play these buttons dim, the DVD drive LED illuminates, and the HD LED
faintly flashes indicating low-intensity disk activity. The DVD never
plays; the machine just sits waiting for Judgment Day.
Please suggest what is wrong and what is the fix or the next diagnostic
steps.
Also, no written documentation came with my machine. Does any exist
for this s/w package?
The online help is the equivalent of only a few text pages illustrating
the buttons. Am I missing something?
This skimpy help refers to shortcut letters. I can find no place to
input such a letter.
One of our correspondents (Bruce Markowitz) mentioned " Setting the DVD
Express software to reduce the screen to 800X600X256 . . . ." I can find
no such entry point nor any reference in the skimpy documentation I
have. What am I missing? Bruce, are you listening?
Last question: What s/w alternatives have I, either for Win98 or for
OS/2 (my preferred platform, on another partition on this machine)?
Bear in mind especially my desire to be able to run DVDs from
multiple regions as I commute between Asia and the USA. For any
nominations please reference d/l source and strong/weak points and
gotchas.
Thanks to all in advance for your wisdom.
