One thing to consider is how quickly the drive stops when it's powered off.
My 18Gb and 20Gb Travelstar (IBM) drives all take a LONG time to stop--it's
at least 15 seconds. This is a Very Bad Thing if you see the standby light
go on and think it's safe to move the machine then.
I have a 10Gb Hitachi that also takes a long time to stop.
My 12Gb and 18Gb Toshibas both stop very quickly--by the time the standby
light goes on, the drive is completely stopped.
I haven't tried a 20Gb Hitachi or Toshiba, but it would be interesting to
hear from owners about how long they take to stop.
