Ed,
Yes, the current 6.4GB drive being offered by Hitech is the IBM DADA26480 which
is precisely the drive that many of us received as factory original in our first
600Es. It absolutely will fit.
As to "adapting" it as a second hard drive, that isn't necessary. Get a second
hard drive adapter from IBM for $29 (or from Bill Morrow!). Simply drop the new
drive in the adapter and slide the pins onto the connector. Then the adapter
simply slides into the Ultrabay of the 600. Piece of cake.
I have four of these drives running in 755 series Thinkpads as well, so it
should certainly work in your 701.
Regards,
James

Subject: IBM 6.4gig drive
Will the 2.5 x .5, 6,4gig drive on Hightechcafe work on the TP600? If so, how
can I adapt it to work as a secondary drive in the CD slot. I believe the
pinout arrangement uses a different type of connector. I also assume that it
will work on my TP701 if I use my spare 701 drive case. Can anyone give me
confidence that it is okay to buy the 6.4 g drive for the above uses?
Ed
