I think that I can categorically state that it's not worth bothering to try to
do the direct cable connection link-up between a 730TE [w/ IBM Serial Infrared
Adaptor, W95] and a 770ED [W98]. Establishing the connection is slower than
using napster on a 1200 baud modem, and once you're all hooked up,
right-clicking on a file causes the link to get fatally interrupted. The
communications interruption happens first on the 770ED [host] then on the
730TE after the host times out.
For the life of me, I can't get DCC to work at all with the 770 playing Client
and the 730 as Host.
DCC also fails to work with the virtual parallel interfaces, but I believe
that's documented somewhere in MSFT's Knowledge Base.
Transfers via IRXFER [Send To->Infrared Recipient] work great, but I did want
to give the Briefcase functionality a workout without having to carry around a
parallel laplink cable. Hm. Left that in the drawer at home again...
