I disagree
The system will boot without a floppy, but not if it does not see a hard
drive.
Make sure you are using an appriate hard drive in an appropriate caddy. Try
cleaning the contacts of the hard drive plug with some alcohol or tuner
cleaner. The HDD plug may have worn out - a know issue I have had on several
machines.
