I can provide a Sony internal CD-R that goes into the slim ultrabay on a 600-600E-600X
It is a 4X write - 20X read.
You would need to send me your existing internal CD-ROM drive. You will get back a 4X CD-R ready for insertion into oyur laptop, along with your original 24X CD mounted in a PCMCIA case ready to use as a reader.
Cost is $250 plus shipping.
