I had asked a while ago whether a plain 570 (not 570E) would accept a
100Mhz 256MB, although it's supposed to use 66Mhz RAM and to max out at
192MB (64+128). I got no answer at the time.
Well, I just received my new 570E, which I had ordered with a 256MB from
Crucial. So one of the first things I did was to take out the 128MB in my
570 (PII/333, 2644-1AU) and to replace it with the 256MB from the 570E.
I'm happy to report it appears to be fully recognized and to work just
fine (I didn't do extensive testing, though).
I also have a plain 600 (PII/233, 2645-42U), which has 32MB on the MB and
2x64MB, for a total of 160MB. I took out one of the two 64MB's and
replaced it with the 256MB: Easy Setup reported 360,448KB as installed
(32+64+256), but only 228,800MB as usable. I then took out the other 64MB,
keeping only the 256MB: Easy Setup reported 294,912KB as installed
(32+256), but only 163,264MB as usable. In other words, it appears the 600
can only use half of the 256MB.
Summa summarum: the 570 actually maxes out at 320MB (64+256), like the
570E, and not 192MB (64+128). This is at least the case with my 570.
Cheers, Dominique
