        The problem is that the IBM literature is out-dated - at the time
of release, the largest available chip was indeed 32MB. Larger chips
came out later, and do work.

        Well, this is again IBM-speak. To them, a user-upgradeable drive is
one that's swappable, easily accessible without opening the case. The
560's drive can be upgraded, but it requires the user to open the case
completely - hardly any manufacturer advocates that. It's fairly
simple to do, though; 20 minutes with a Phillips head screwdriver is
all it takes.
