Hi, I'm new to this forum and I've been trying to solve a problem with
my ThinkPad i-Series 1412 (2611-412). I've used the IBM Support
forums, talked to IBM support and I've searched the ThinkPad
Mailing-List Archive - no solution. I'll lay it out for you below.
Has anyone experienced this problem and solved it?

My ThinkPad occasionally freezes during use, especially when using
Microsoft Project 98 and Excel 97 under Win98 (4.10.1998). By
"freezes" I mean the machine simply stops responding, no blue screen,
no illegal operation, no task manager to end applications not
responding, nothing! The only alternative is to restart with the power
switch.

I do not believe it is a problem with overheating as the freeze can
occur within minutes of starting the machine. Other times, the freeze
occurs after hours of using the machine. Days can go by without ever
seeing the freeze. Although Project and Excel appear to be the main
culprits, it has happened when using other programs, e.g., Windows
Explorer. There may be a minor correlation with mouse operations like
scrolling and drag-and-drop.

As per IBM support suggestions, I have tried the following:
- set video acceleration to None
- installed the latest video and trackpoint drivers
- disabled Microsoft Findfast

The problem will not go away. In 1.5 years of using this machine,
this problem has surfaced intermittently, and when it does, it's
always in the middle of something important :-). Otherwise, it's been
a rock solid machine. I use the basically the same software on a
desktop computer and I cannot recall seeing this type of freeze.

Have any ThinkPad i1412 owners out there experienced this problem?
I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.
