Lockups due to RAM also happen in desktop units. It happened to
me just this week in a new unit. Sometimes it is not science,
nor art, but Black Magic that seems to be at work. If
replacing the RAM solves your problem, don't throw away the
removed RAM, it may still work in another machine. It's not
logic, it's m a g i c.
