on some HDD's, the head assembly will stick and not launch over the data
area..
i still have a 340meg notebook drive which this happend to..
i opened it, used a straightened paper clip to move the head assembly a tiny
bit, then powered up the drive using a cable..
i watched as it read and wrote data..
later i cut a clear plastic part to cover the HDA and used thin double side
tape to stick this window to the digital workings on the casting..
this old HDD still, on very rare occasions, works..
not long term, but the thing still reads and writes..
