What OS are you trying? If for some reason you're using NT4, your boot
partition is indeed limited to 8.4GB for NTFS, 4.2GB NTFS if you use the
installation software to make the partition, and a typical 2.1GB FAT16
if you're opting for that.

Try using fdisk of some sort to delete all your partitions and start over.

Or, try Ranish Partition Manager (it's free, and at
http://www.users.intercom.com/~ranish/part/) to make your partition
table jump hoops... or just make and format a FAT32 partition with it.
